ASSOCIATION DEVELOPMENTS	1998
Organization/Officers	Johann van Reenen, UNM, serves as Chair of the Directors Group. Marsha Dreier serves as Chair-elect. Karen Stabler is Secretary-Treasurer.
	Kay Krehbiel replaces Betty Reynolds as NMT representative to the Directors Group.
	Donnie Curtis replaces Karen Stabler as NMSU representative to the Directors Group and as Secretary-Treasurer.
	David Myers replaces Donnie Curtis as NMSU representative to the Directors Group and as Secretary-Treasurer.
	ISTEC, Naval Research Laboratory, Lovelace Respiratory Research Institute, NASA Scientific and Technical Information Program, Santa Fe Institute, University of Nevada, Las Vegas and University of Nevada, Reno join the Alliance as Associate Members.
	The Air Force Research Laboratory and the University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center Library join the Alliance as Full Members.
Business/Budgets	Budget of $12,000 for 1998 is approved and Karen Stabler sends out invoices to members.
	Professional services contract with Karen Stoll is continued for an additional year.
	Donnie Curtis files the Alliance federal tax return for the 1997 tax year.
	An Audit Committee consisting of Johann van Reenen and Marsha Dreier review the Alliance books and find them to be in good order.
Publications/Presentations	1997 annual report is published.
ELECTRONIC INITIATIVES
Scisearch	NMSU and NMT are online with SciSearch. NMSU access goes back to 1993 and NMT back to 1995.
	LANL links the IDEAL journal articles to the SciSearch database and makes them available to LANL users.
	Holdings data for UNM, SNL and NMT is loaded.
	UNM purchases additional years of data back to 1977.
	LANL makes IDEAL journals linked to SciSearch available to Alliance subscribers.
	Marsha Dreier begins negotiations to extend SciSearch access to other AFRL locations in addition to Phillips.
Electronic Journals	LANL loads 300 Elsevier titles, back to 1995, on their server and links them to the SciSearch database.
	AFRL Phillips Research Site signs an agreement with Academic Press for access to the IDEAL electronic journals.
	Alliance begins negotiation with the Institute of Physics for a consortial agreement.
	Elsevier Science selects the Library Without Walls (LWW) program to be an Advanced Technology Partner. Under terms of the agreement, LANL will receive all 1,100 Elsevier Science electronic journal titles beginning with 1995 publications.
	AFRL contracts with Elsevier to gain access to the 1100 titles through the LANL server.
Other Databases	LANL purchases electronic content of IEE/IEEE publications, including journals, standards and proceedings.
	LANL has INSPEC data beginning with 1969 running on its local server and linked to PDF articles.
	UNM contracts with LANL to provide INSPEC @ LANL search service.
	LANL purchases Engineering Index data beginning with 1969, and provides links to full-text journal, conference or report articles.
Other Cooperative Initiatives	Alliance journal lists for Elsevier, IOP, HighWire Press, Springer-Verlag and APS are available on the Alliance web site.
