AISTI 2001 Summary

AISTI Developments for 2001

General:

  • Executive Director given authority to sign checks and sign contracts on behalf of AISTI.
  • Bonding for Executive Director and Directors that write checks has been secured.
  • Directors and Officers Insurance has been secured.
  • In April 2001 AISTI received a final favorable determination from the IRS for the 501(c)(3) non-profit organization status.
  • Obtained a domain name www.aisti.org and corresponding e-mail.
  • Obtained a toll free telephone number for AISTI.
  • Obtained a dedicated telephone line for AISTI business.
  • An official logo was created.
  • The AISTI Strategic Plan was reviewed and revised.
  • An official E-Vote Procedure has been drafted to help expedite AISTI projects.
  • A Request for Proposals to further the AISTI Mission, Vision and/or Strategic Plan has been posted.
  • The second annual AISTI miniconference was held at the Hotel Eldorado on October 16, 2001 with about 75 participants.
  • Information packets are distributed with each Board of Directors meeting.
  • The AISTI By-Laws have been revised to address organizational changes.

Website:

  • Ability to update website remotely established.
  • A budget of $5,000 has been set-aside for a revised AISTI Web-Site.
  • Links to available BioSketeches are accessible on the Directors portion of the Website.

Financial:

  • A Certified Public Accounting firm, Neff & Ricci from Albuquerque, performed a 5 year review Alliance financial records and tax returns.
  • In January 2001 AISTI transferred the accounting duties from an independent Accounting firm, Guadalupe and Associates, to the Executive Director.
  • Full Treasurers reports are issued at every Board of Directors Meeting.
  • A passthrough agreement and contract has been established with AFRL for all of their library purchases and executed for both 2001 and 2002 products.

Membership:

  • The AISTI membership application, criteria and obligations have been revised.
  • A new membership category of Special Affiliate has been created.
  • ESIG (Epscor Science Information Group) has been accepted as a special affiliate member
  • NRL has moved from Associate Member to Full member.
  • The National Academies, University of Utah and University of Montana are new Associate Members.

Publishers:

  • Kluwer and Blackwell - Revised deals for AISTI have been negotiated in conjunction with the ESIG/EPSCoR Group.
  • Blackwell ­ An AISTI copyright policy has been established with Blackwell.
  • BioOne ­ a license has been negotiated and is in place.
  • Elsevier ­ AISTI sent a proposal to Elsevier.
  • Wiley ­ negotiations still pending (to be loaded at LANL).
  • Sent an activist letter to Nature.
  • Nature ­ a license has been negotiated and is in place.
