AISTI E-Print Server

The E-print server project took place from 2002 – 2004. This project proved to be an important educational tool.  As a result of the project many of the AISTI institutions have used some of the knowledge gained to create and maintain their own institutional repositories (SFI, UNM, NRL, NSF, NASA and LANL.)

Members met several challenges in trying to launch the project within their institutions. Some of the participants agreed the project was difficult to launch inside their institutions if the proper leadership and motivation from management was not in place. For others the technical challenge proved to daunting, and in other institutions following through on an innovative project was too difficult.   One thing AISTI members agreed upon, is that as with the TRI project, the project moved forward better with a project manager. On the whole the project was successful and drove AISTI members to incorporate new technologies in their libraries.
